First indian meals

So far the food here has been really amazing. While really not that different form the Indian places back home in style and flavor it is all extremely fresh. I think i am accustomed to Indian buffets and here it has just come out of some big clay oven. And it really seems to make a huge difference. On our first day, Haresh and Dalvir took us to the "Made In India" restaurant at the Radison where our co-workers Brandon and Sol had stayed. Extremely ritzy hotel, with fine dining. On the food, the spicy hot side was kept in check and I was able to eat everything. We had appetizers of spiced chicken and cheese, then creamed spinach and more chicken. I'm terrible at describing food so i won't even try. But the deserts were really tight. The standard fried dough in a syrup- but better than any i had ever had before. Super fresh and light. not heavy like you get at home. But the best was a pistachio ice cream with rice noodles called kulfi. OUT OF THIS WORLD. Apparently street vendors sell it as popsicles. Need to find somewhere near the office where i can pick that up every day. After the meal we went in the kitchen and the guy showed us how he makes the thinnest bread, working it like a pizza dough and the laying it on top of a metal dome that sits on a fire. The dough was so thin it cooked in just a few seconds. pretty neat.

For dinner first night John and I went to a place called pearl regency- pretty much a family place, but the food was great. Chicken in a tomato sauce , paneer in a tomato sauce (we kinda screwed up on variety) saffron rice with all kinda of vegetables and cashews in it. Naan with chunks of garlic and of course, bottled water. Here they make a big deal out of bringing hte bottle of water out, letting you lay a hand on it to verify that it is cold, and then breaking the seal on the bottle in front of you, just so you don't think it's been refilled. Anyways, two great meals to start things off.

Canteen today was just fine. I doubt you could do better for the dollar it costs. Some lentils, rice and pumpkin that tasted like a fried pie when you ate it with the fried bread. And so far no gastro-status changing events....
