There is a job for everyone

Well at least there are lots of little jobs for people to do. I've been amazed by the things you see people doing by hand. I guess when labor costs are the least of your concerns... Actually, when i asked Depak, who went on our trip Saturday around Delhi, about it he was positive about it creating jobs for people to do, which is a good spin. A few examples:

For constructions areas they have large metal (maybe 5x8) under construction signs, usually with a logo and a message that surround the construction area. And construction areas are everywhere. Each of the signs are hand painted and letter free hand. I didn't fully believe it till i saw a guy doing it Saturday. I mean there are just thousands an thousands of these signs everywhere.

On our first night here John and I saw people working on a modern entrance/exit to a highway with just an small hammer and a standard pick axe. A few other people were there to carry the rubble away by hand. It seemed like they were going to be there a looooooong time.

And there is the guy at the office who comes around to ask if we want tea. As social stratification is important, he asks once every hour for John and twice a day for me.
